Common Ledge Door Problems (And How to Fix Them)

What To Expect From Newly Installed Ledge Doors

Ledge doors are a popular choice for homes and businesses alike because of their security and durability. However, like any other type of door, a ledge door can experience problems from time to time.

Hinges Squeaking: Overtime, the metal hinges on ledge doors can become loose or worn out, which leads to a squeaking sound when you open and close them. To fix this issue, lubricate the hinges with a light oil such as WD-40 or 3 in 1 Oil.

Door Won’t Close Properly: If your door is not closing properly, it could be due to several causes including broken springs or pulleys, misaligned tracks, or unbalanced weight distribution. To remedy the problem, check all of these components and make any necessary adjustments.

Jammed Lock: The latch mechanism inside of the lock may become jammed due to dirt buildup over time. To fix this issue, use a can of compressed air to blow away any dirt or debris from the lock and then lubricate it with graphite powder.

Worn-Out Weatherstripping: If you find that your door is no longer creating an airtight seal, then the weatherstripping may have worn out over time. Invest in new weatherstripping and replace the old one by prying it off carefully and applying a bead of silicone caulk on the back of the new strip before pushing it into place.

Holes in Door Frame: Over time, holes may form in the frame due to wear and tear as well as insect damage. To repair these holes, you’ll need to patch them with some wood filler, sand it down until it’s flush with the door frame, and then prime and paint.

It is important to pay attention to any issues you may be having with your ledge doors in order to keep them in good condition for years to come. With the right maintenance and care, your ledge doors will provide long-lasting security and protection for your home or business!
